November was a bit interesting though. We went through with our home school lessons as usual, right up to the week
of Thanksgiving. I had plans for that week, a break from the worksheet type of lessons. I had crafts planned,
as well as interesting recipes. But, as the week dawned, I discovered that I had misplaced all my craft instructions.
Now just how was I going to have Corn Husk dolls and Mayflower Ships made by my kids donning the festive table come Thursday?
Monday passed with no instructions, as did Tuesday and Wednesday. I had to substitue coloring activities instead, all
the while my son piping in "when we gonna make the table decoration mommy?" Come Wednesday night, I sat down and cried.
There would be no centerpiece. The day came and tisk, no centerpiece...except for that horridly carved turkey.
And, then Friday dawned, us eating left over pumpkin pie for breakfast and discussing what each of the boys thought of Thanksgiving
and what decorations they would like to make for this year's christmas tree. As I pulled out patterns for the Christmas
ornaments...guess what I found...mixed in with templates of snowmen, bells, and gingerbread men sat the instructions for the
Walnut shell Mayflowers and the Corn husk dolls!!
December was a rather laid back schooling month. With holiday festivities abounding, we didn't actually do a whole
lot of "work sheets". Instead, we spent more time making cookies, and shopping. Atleast up until the weekend of
December 18th. And then we took of to Helen Georgia to see the Alpine village all adorned for Christmas, toured Anna Ruby Falls in the snow, visited Hansel and Gretel candy store to learn how the hand made candies were made. And let the children make snow men on an almost daily basis.
And we returned home a few short days before Christmas Day.
